Well, speaking as someone who runs INN for a single user household,
it's not overkill at all :-)  Proper setup and maintenance means
that it essentially looks after itself.

I use INN 1.5.1 and newsx-0.9 and have nary a problem with it. I
download around 50 newsgroups a day, and it works a treat. Not at
all resource hungry.
