I recently purchased a Conner 4326 DDS-2 tape drive, and it hangs off my Adaptec 2842 SCSI controller. Small backups < 500M under DOS using Adaptec's software, or Linux (1.1.70) using tar seem to work OK. When I try doing large backups under Linux, it seems to start OK, but my system locks up at around the 1 gigabyte mark. Only a hard reset will restore it. It's occurring when backing up normal user-level files, not device file or anything weird like that. I haven't tested a large backup under DOS, as the bulk of my HD space uses ext2fs. Any help *greatly* appreciated. Geoff...
