We've had our first 200 Linux users signing the Shockwave petition. If
you haven't already please do so if you'd like to see the Shockwave
plugin ported to Linux.
Note: since starting the petition I've heard of an open source version
of the Shockwave plugin being developed. I still think this petition is
necessary because:
1) This is an unofficial plugin with no support from Macromedia. This
means that a Linux user clicking on a 'get shockwave' button on a web
site will get a message saying There is no plugin for your platform.
2) The plugin is at an early stage of development and won't currently
implement many shockwave features.

Therefore I still see it is an advantage if Macromedia port thier plugin
to Linux or give the developer of the open source version some
assistance and once it is ready have a link to it on the Macromedia
site. Whatever they do we need Macromedia to acknowledge there is a
growing Linux user base.
Personally I'd like to see an open source shockwave plugin but open
soure or closed source we do need some sort of acknowledgement by
Macromedia. It it isn't on the Macromedia site many will think there's
no shockwave for Linux and if Linux is to be successfull people need to
get software either as easy or easier than with Windows.
