Been trying to iron out some niggles.. Some stuff prints well, other stuff has oddities. I am trying to automate printing of various graphical stuff so that a server side process can spit out paperwork without an actual user print dialogue. So my primary point of interaction is the lp program Now I don't expect a solution, but I would like a road map of 'this bit call that bit which does that, and that bit calls this bit and performs that translation, and that bit takes the translation and throws it at the printer, reading these config files as it goes..' etc etc. So far I have discovered what cupsd.conf dies..sets up the cups daemon. I think I know what the PPD does - defines the printers characteristics, and how to access them from e.g. lp and lpoptions.. Thats enabled me to actually print A3, which is a start.. But what is HPJIS, and foomatic, and where does ghostscript come in? I suspect my problems are with ghostscript actually, So I upgraded from the latest stable debian to the bleeding edge testing sources, but it still has an issue (transparent background images in PDFs do not have the transparency respected)..that is something that looks like a couple of days worth at the source code level would fix..but where to first be sure that is the issue, and secondly identify where images are handled in Ghostscript. Its HUGE. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?
