I just installed the Redhat's Linux 1.2.8 release on a Gateway 200
Pentium 120 (Triton chipset). PCI boards included an STB Trio64 video card,
a Buslogic 946C SCSI controller, and an SMC EtherPower adapter. I recompiled
the RH 1.2.8 kernel with PCI BIOS support and Donald Becker's DEC 21040
driver for the EtherPower board.
When I tried to ifconfig eth0 up, I received the following error:
SIOCSFFLAGS: Try Again
which the Ethernet-HOWTO explains as, "Some other device has taken the
IRQ that your ethercard is trying to use, and so the ethercard can't
use the IRQ." Looking at /proc/interrupts, and comparing with
ifconfig eth0, I discovered that both the Buslogic SCSI controller and
the Ethernet adapter were assigned to IRQ 9.
Isn't PCI plug-and-play supposed to assign different IRQ's to
different boards? Any suggestions?

I had to do this with my 3com card and now it sets up, however I have the same message on my machine. So the PnP turn off won't help with the SIOCSFFLAGS message. But if you discover the answer to this I would appriciate the answer. Ron
