This is off-topic, but I know a lot of you guys try every distribution out there. Has anyone tried SkyOS, and got any thoughts on it? URL: http://www.skyos.org Regards, Barry Kauler

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Barry Kauler <bkauler@goosee.com> wrote: > This is off-topic, but I know a lot of you guys > try every distribution out there. > Has anyone tried SkyOS, and got any thoughts > on it? > > URL: http://www.skyos.org Well, it doesn't _do_ all that much at this point. It appears as though it's probably a little more functional than Linux was when Linus Torvalds first publicized its existence. But it looks like something you work with, at this point, if you want to build a graphical OS environment "nearly from scratch." Why that should excite people more than Linux, *BSD, or the projects to recreate things resembling BeOS or NeXTStep, I am not sure. It's not completely clear what the purpose of it is; it looks more like a "quasi-recreation of BeOS" than anything else. -- (concatenate 'string "cbbrowne" "@acm.org") http://cbbrowne.com/info/oses.html Pay no attention to the PDP-11 behind the front panel. -- PGS, in reference to OZ

It seems to have had a burst of development recently. I had a look here: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=185 They say it will "run Linux applications" whatever that means. Christopher Browne wrote: >>URL: http://www.skyos.org > Well, it doesn't _do_ all that much at this point.

I doubt that buys them a web browser... -- (reverse (concatenate 'string "moc.enworbbc@" "sirhc")) http://cbbrowne.com/info/linux.html "Well, it's assembly language, you know.
