Hi, I've just installed RH 6.0 which uses the KDE PPP connection tool to use the modem. When I try to dial my ISP, the modem returns a 'no dialtone' error. I can hear a dialtone though. Having just converted from windows, there is a setting to force the modem to dial without waiting for the dialtone, so that was not a problem with the same modem under windows. Is there a similar setting somewhere in KPPP or is there a scripting I can write for this modem? Thanks for your help in advance! Elwyn

You will want to add X3 to the Modem Initialization String. In kppp you do setup and modem and modem commands. The string is the second one down. I have to do that with mine. My string there is AT&FX3 Anita On Wed, 29 Sep 1999 15:17:16 +0800, Elwyn Campbell <elwyn@clancampbell.wattle.id.au> wrote: >Hi, > >I've just installed RH 6.0 which uses the KDE PPP connection tool to use the >modem. what you are refering to is not a winbloze specific function. it is a command in the Hayes control set. you are able to set these control strings in /etc/pppscript -- Celestial Wizard http://merlin.hatfields.com.au/seblug/ Linux - Where You WANT To Be! You can probably fix your modem by sending it ATX3. Not knowing KPPP, I can't tell you how to do that, but I would look for an initialization string you can edit, by adding X3 at the end (it will already begin with AT).
