I have a DELL XPM/590 running linux and I can't seem to get the S3 server (I am running XFree86 V3.1) to work. I have tried running xf86config and that seems OK, SuperProbe finds the video card etc but when I run it the system hangs. I can run the VGA16 server with no problems. My configuration is DELL XPM/590 S3 Vision 864 video card with 2MB ram DELL Ultrascan 15ES monitor Has anyone gotten this to work. Does anyone have a config file. John

Make sure that the file /usr/bin/X11/X is a symlink to XF86_S3. Make up your
/usr/lib/X11/XF86Config file according to you systems specs. Then test it
by running 'X -probeonly'. This should report on the detected video chip
and RAMDAC. You may need to change the XF86Config file if the X server
doesn't detect the correct devices. Also check out the man pages XF86_Accel
and XF86Config and the file /usr/lib/X11/doc/README.S3.
