I need to turn /dev/hda1 into a bootable M$-DOS partition from within linux, so after the /sbin/mkdosfs -s 16 /dev/hda1 I should do the linux equivalent of SYS C: Does such a utility exist ? -------------------------------------------------------- Piet RUYSSINCK Piet.Ruyssinck@rug.ac.be Unix Systeem Administratie +32 9 264 4733 ACADEMISCH REKENCENTRUM (ARC) Universiteit Gent (RUG) Krijgslaan 281, gebouw S9, bureel 4 9000 Gent, Belgie

You might be able to do it from dosemu, but that requires a copy of MS-DOS to set up. You could also put freedos on it. I suppose the cannonical answer here is: 1) Put DOS installation floppy in first diskette drive (/dev/fd0). 2) mount /dev/fd0 /mnt 3) cd /mnt 4) mv autoexec.bat autoexec.old 5) echo sys C: > autoexec.bat (Assuming one of the normal versions of DOS where the root directory of the installation disk contains all the DOS utilites - back when the world was young and DOS fit on one disk) 6) cd;umount /dev/fd0;reboot The real question is: Why do we want to do this? What's the real issue? ************************************************************************ I am master of my domain. - pynq@quads.uchicago.edu, who is still costing the net hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars, every time he posts - ************************************************************************ rwvpf wpnrrj ibf ijrfer
