Windows 98, Me or 2000 work on about 80% of the PC's out there, without producing any of such errors. IF windows is raising these exceptions it _almost always_ has to do with mismanagment (ignorant luser) or a bad installation. | I like the fact that Linux works unless I do | something wrong.Linux tells me plenty about | why something is not working so the next time | I can do it right (and it works reliably from | then on). It does keep working after you set everything right once, that's true. As for error messages, most of them are pretty clear but if you start going into things deeper they get less obvious. Also all linux messages and procedures imply basic 'computer knowledge' on user-level. Windows can be installed _and_ used by someone who can barely distinguish the power on/of button on his PC, something linux is - still - not able to do. | > For me, NT/2000 is "good enough". [snip] | I get sick of typing the whole filename in Windows .. I think you are missing the point. The original poster ment that in windows he doesn't have to use the command line prompt. Windows has tab completion too though, if you type in your command in the 'address' bar of the Explorer it works the same way as linux, even better. Don't get me wrong, I prefer linux too, but one has to realize both are ment for different kind of users, and if a user doesn't have much knowledge about his computer and the concepts behind it he's still better of with windows. Both are good operating systems - imo - and both have their flaws. Windows can be a bitch to maintain and linux is a bitch to set up. Still waiting for Winux or Lindows :)
