I've had similar problems mounting SGI volumes on Solaris machines. In this
case the problem seems to be with Sun since I can mount SGI volumes on HP and
Linux machines.

I have had problems with some revs of Linux's mountd. The symptoms of this
are that mountd core dumps when trying to mount from HP machines. This is
solved by getting a later rev of mountd.
