Here is a couple problems:

1) NE 2100 is not the best card out there in terms of performance,
3COM's cards require a lot less CPU load.

2) I suspect your problem is the 386 that is serving. I have a Cyrix 166
with a PCI based ethernet card (Dec 21141) and I routinely get ftp
transfers out or in to this box on the order of 600 Kbytes per second or
more depending how loaded our network is. On the otherhand NFS writes go
at 200 Kbytes or less and AFS is somewhere in between. SAMBA runs
a little bit better than NFS. If you are running Windows 95 and Linux
why not use Samba and Microsoft networking. That works beautifully.

Best regards and good Luck.
