I have my modem connected to com2 and a serial printer connected to
com4.
For six months I had terrible ppp performance whilst printing to my
Apple LaserWriter. I finaly broke down and read the Serial-Howto. In it
I discovered that my serial ports were competing for the same interrupt.
So I bit the bullet and changed by com4 interrupt. Haven't had a problem
since.

Now my ppp performance is quite good (about 25% faster than Windows 95).
I
get 3.0 Kbs under Linux and 2.5 Kbs under Windows 95. Dropped packets, I
rarely get them.

Do another look around to see if something is competing for the IRQ.
Maybe it's
a PCI IDE controller eating up an IRQ for the PCI slot.

Hope that helps,
Rob
