Hello,
While not specifically a linux question, as it deals with all the machines
on my network, I think I'll get the best answers to this in these two groups:
I have a small network of 4 machines, and a dot matrix printer.
2 of the machines are Unix - a PC with Linux and a Sun with Solaris 2.4.
The other 2 are PCs - a 286 with NCSA telnet for DOS and a 486 with an
MSDOS based X server on it.
I also have a spare 386sx PC sitting with nothing to do (off line).
How can I make use of either the 386 or 286 machines to act as print
servers?
Both machines have network cards, but run Linux poorly.
The 286 has 5MB of RAM and the 386 4MB of RAM - both have 40MB disks.
Is there some DOS software available that will let these machines manage
my poor dot matrix printer, so my two Unix machines can benefit from it?
At the same time the 486 X terminal does double duty as a windows word
processor and spreadsheet cruncher.
I'd like this machine to have transparent access to the printer as well.
Is there a low budget, DOS solution to this that will let me have all my
machines doing useful work?
Thanks!
Rachel
