In theory, this can be done with a package known as afpfs (http://www.panix.com/~dfoster/afpfs/); however, afpfs is currently ALPHA-LEVEL software, and so is not to be trusted. If you want to help develop it to usability, great. If not, you'll need another solution. Your best bet is really to install a package on the Macintosh that allows it to use a non-Mac protocol. For instance, DAVE (http://www.thursby.com/) lets Macs "speak" SMB/CIFS, and you can use that in conjunction with Samba on Linux to mount Mac volumes on Linux. (I've never actually done this myself, though.) Thursby also has a package called MacNFS that lets Macs "talk" the Unix NFS protocol. (Again, I've not used this package myself.) If you want to go the other way (mount Linux shares on a Macintosh), it's a bit easier (or at least less expensive) -- you just need to use Netatalk (http://thehamptons.com/anders/netatalk/ or http://www.umich.edu/~rsug/netatalk/) to let Linux look like a Macintosh server. Netatalk I have used, and in fact it's one of the topics I cover in my book, _Linux: Networking for Your Office_ (http://www.rodsbooks.com/networking/). -- Rod Smith, rodsmith@rodsbooks.com http://www.rodsbooks.com Author of books on Linux networking & WordPerfect for Linux
