Help...

I have a Linux/Win98se dual-boot machine (call it "gw") acting as a
gateway/router for systems on my home/internal network. The internal
network is a 10baseT network. If I boot "gw" into Win98se (+ internet
connection sharing), file transfers between "gw" and systems on the
internal network approaches 1 M-Bytes per second.

The problem is that, when I boot "gw" into Linux, file transfers between
"gw" and the internal network are pretty much limited to 70 K-Bytes per
second. What could've caused the problem?

I tried disabling IP-masquerading, setting/mixing all possible ifconfig
options on eth1 (the interface connecting to the internal network), but
they didn't improve network performance a bit. I checked and re-checked the
network related settings (/etc/conf.modules, /etc/sysconfig/*, /etc/rc.d/*)
and compared mine with those described in the Ethernet/Networking howtos,
but didn't find anything abnormal. What should I try next?

BTW, "gw" is a Dell Dimension XPS D233 with two NE2000-PCI cards; Linux is
RedHat 6.1 with all current patches. The connection between "gw" and the
outside world doesn't seem to be affected by which OS it's running.
