I have just downloaded and installed RH Linux 7.3, and in general it looks great. But where is my beloved Linuxconf? I have used this for remote admin on my PC's (both the command line and gui versions) for several years now and it is an old friend? Sometimes having a product that operates as BOTH a gui and a command-line utility is a blessing - eg: when your web page server is not working. Why is it not included in the (everything) install of 7.3? Is there a problem with it? Or is it that RH consider something else to be better? Graham Daniell

Go read the Release Notes on RedHat 7.2 CD1 then read the Release Notes on RedHat 7.3 CD1. -- David (who is getting right royally pissed off with people asking where the broken piece of shit that is linuxconf is in RH7.3)

Just the same as the rp3 _package_ that went, but at least there was a pointer to redhat-config-network which, would you believe, contains the file /usr/bin/rp3 :-) As to the answer to the original query - it appears that the trail goes:- linuxconf or chkconfig, to redhat-config-services (7.2), to serviceconf (7.3).

Redhat dropped it because of a loud outcry from users about it being buggy. Some had no problems, but enough did that they decided it was history. -- There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and Microsoft's Knowledgebase.

I guess Redhat have given up on it. Of course the One True Way[tm] is vim `find /etc -type f`, but you probably didn't want to hear that. Bron.

[Sigh] Personally, I miss the good old fashioned Control Panel. Never failed. Oh, well. Tom S.
