ppp error - can't determine local ip

Hi all;

I have RedHat 6.2, a nic, a fax/modem, networked to a win95 box on and
off. Trying to set the rh box as a dialin server (using mgetty) and
trying to dialin with a mac performa 580.

The /var/log/ppp shows that the mac connects and logs in, but then it
says it can not determine the local ip.

rh box set up

hosts
	127.0.0.1 localhost
	192.168.1.1 sgtech.localdomain sgtech
	192.168.1.2 lgtech # the local lan client win95
	192.168.1.25 rgtech # the remote computer

options.srv

	oauth
	lock
	modem
	crtscts
	proxyarp
	asyncmap 0
	192.168.1.1:192.168.1.25
	login

pap-secrets
	user1 192.168.1.1 "" 192.168.1.25
	user2 192.168.1.1 "" 192.168.1.25

The macs hosts file is

	127.0.0.1 localhost
	192.168.1.1 sgtech
	192.168.1.25 rgtech # the remote computer

This should be options.ttySx (replace x with the port number).

Syntax error. The IP address of the local system (i.e., the host
computer's IP address) comes last. It should be

192.168.1.25:192.168.1.1

if you want the calling party to receive the 192.168.1.25 address.

Do you tell it what IP to use?
:the.remote.ip.number
in /etc/ppp/options
Eg
:10.1.1.1

]options.srv

How does this file get called by your pppd?
Which version of pppd are you using?

No. The syntax is  <local_IP_address>:<remote_IP_address>
as stated in man pppd.

Argh. Yes, that's correct. I forgot that I renumbered
my dialup interfaces lately.

Does it matter it is called by;

/AutoPPP/ -    ppp     /usr/sbin/pppd file /etc/ppp/options.srv
*	-	-	/bin/login @

It=? the referent of this it is unclear. Gramatically it should refer to "the
mac" but it may be /var/log/ppp.
If you mean that the Linux machine cannot determine its own IP...

Which version of pppd are you using. pppd 2.4.0 had severe problems reading any
options file but /etc/ppp/options.

Perhaps you could post the contents of that /var/log/ppp session (incliding all
time stamps)
