Hi I have got squid working to allow http requests from a few machines on a local network here. That works fine. However I want to get other services running too. I want to set up mail clients and be able to ping from machines on the internal ethernet. I have been trying to use 'ipchains' to allow machines on my local network to have their requests forwarded through the ppp0 interface on my gateway but can't get it to work. ip forwarding is on. Can someone point me in the right direction? Luke Vanderfluit

"ipchains" is just for setting up firewall rules. This has nothing to do with forwarding of network traffic. You should go for a masquerading type of thing, which translates network packtes from your internal network to the official IP address of your Linux gateway so that it can be sent to the internet, packets coming from the internet will translated again from your Linux gateway to your internal network. Check out this page for details: http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO.html Regards, Joerg.
Can you put all of that in the body?
