Samba and MS Access - locking problems
#158

Hello

I am running RH6.0 and samba for file sharing. My Access database (split
front-end/back-end) is all on one Samba share (for initial test purposes).
My Access System.mdw is on another Samba share.

My default Samba file locking would not let more than one person use Access
("You have exceeded your limit of 255 simultaneous users!!"). When I
disabled Samba file locking, it worked, but now two users can both open the
same Word document on the Samba share - results could be a disaster!

Access creates a lock file for the system.mdw and the database front-end
mdb. All users are in the same unix group, and all files are r/w group.

Any advice on how to get this going properly?

I can't remember what Samba level that boils down to, but some levels around
then had problems with Access.
Upgrade to 2.0.6 or even 2.0.7pre4 (the Win2k-update version)

(said he and went off on holiday for Easter)
