Can I mount a serial port from my Win box? I have a Linux server samba'd to a Win98 box. What I want to do is mount a com port on the win macine to linux. Maybe something on this order (though this does not work) mount //Win98/com3 /mnt/winmodem ( Oh and would be a BIG aid if I could specify the win IRQ) tnx in advance

There are a few people who've written server software that runs under NT/95 which redirects communications from a TCP/IP socket to a comm port. There is at least one GPL and one proprietary solution. Similar programs (termpkg...?) exist for Linux as well. Check Simtel for the Winderz version. Gregm > Can I mount a serial port from my Win box? I have a Linux server > samba'd to a Win98 box. AFAIK, win9x can't share a com port like that. It might be possible to share a com port from an NT server machine but I don't think samba (the unix side) has the ability to 'mount' it (yet) jeff montep@hal-pc.org wrote in message <3749c0d1.30279177@news.hal-pc.org>... >Can I mount a serial port from my Win box? Do a search on "Tactical Software" Amercian mob who have quite a bit of software along the lines of what you are looking for. I was using the trial version of one of their products to allow a Windows9x box to use a Com Port shared by a Linux Box (Yes I realise that this is the reverse of what you are watning to do, but I think that they had software to do it that way as well). Be warned, whilst nearly all of Tactical Software's products have free trial periods I was put off using them in the long term due to very very high purchase prices. -- Cheers Tony Smith Connected to the Internet in Cairns Far North Queensland http://members.xoom.com/tony_smith tony.smith@usa.net > AFAIK, win9x can't share a com port like that.
