I need to join an arcnet network up to my Novell Intranetware 4.11a
network via an ethernet IP link. I have been trying to use ipxtunnel
(also tried ipxtund) to achieve this, but with little success so far. A
DOS client on the arcnet end can occasionally attach to a file server
and can do a directory of the F:\LOGIN directory, but it cannot login to
the server. Mostly, however the client cannot even attach.

My feeling is that I have got the configuration close to right but that
there is a timeout problem somewhere.

Can anyone please offer some suggestions? Anyone actually get ipxtunnel
running in a real Novell environment?

My configuration is: Two linux boxes, ethernet linked, kernel 2.0.30.
The box at the arcnet end has 3 ethernet cards and an arcnet (this
nastiness is because ipxtunnel will not talk directly to the arcnet card
- eth0 is the IP link, eth1 delivers IPX packets from the tunnel to eth2
which routes IPX to arc0 (whew!). DOS client is latest V2.5 Novell
client.

AAaack! ARCNET!!! On NetWare 4.11 even!! You do realize that by mentioning those two things in the
same sentence that Novell has *already* disavowed any knowledge of you or anyone you know, don't you?

Actually, I tried to do this once using NetWare as a router to route packets from ARCNET segments onto
Ethernet, and It Just Didn't Work (TM). I wound up with problems similar to what you're having...and
then I gave up. All I can say is, GOOD LUCK!

I'm working on a simular problem - I'm trying to connect an Ethernet to
Tokenring network using IPX. I've also tried ipxtunnel and ipxtund. My main
problem seems to be the different frame types. What frame type does arcnet
have?

Good luck
  Patrick
