Hello all,
I've made up my mind on how i will be setting up my 386 and P100 systems. Any
advice will be greately appreciated.
I've managed to do a deal where i can get two NE2000 clones, 10 metres of
Thinnet cable, and two terminators for $AU128 (this's new, not 2nd hand).
The 386 DX-40 (8Mb, IDE harddisks) will be a router, and will have my 14.4K
modem and a HP 4L printer. When i dial into the 'net (only a few hours per
day), the 386 will be the box that does it. Naturally, this is going
to be a full-time Linux setup.
The P100 (24Mb, 1.7Gb scsi-2, other beefy stuff) will be firewalled off
from the 'net (by not setting up any routing stuff), and will share
the HP via lpr while under Linux, and Samba while under Windows 3.11.
By doing this, i assume that what state my P100 is in will not affect
my 'net connection. for example, i could re-boot the P100 to try out a
new kernel, test something under DOS, or whatever, and when it
re-boots and gets back into Linux, it'll be back on the 'net via
socksd which would be running on the 386.
Does anyone see any flaws in my ideas? If you've got anything to
add to this, i will be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance,
