Best E-mail for schools using Linux & Win95?

Hi Folks,

Our school is moving from our Netware server running Pegasus mail and
the Mercury internet mail gateway to using a Linux based server. We have
samba and netatalk running for Windows and Mac file serving and printing
but I'm not sure what to do for mail accesses.

I'd like to have mail accounts on the Linux box so users can get to
their mail using POP mail from home via their local ISP. That part's
easy. I also want users to be able to move from computer to computer in
the school and still get their mail. Short of going to something like
Pine what are my options? Pine is great but they are all use to the nice
interface and features of Pegasus for Windows/Mac. Is there a way to use
Eudora, Netcape Mail, or Pegasus from generic machines to access mail
without having to reconfigure pop mail settings every session?

One thing I'm trying to do is to get the Win95 workstations to use user
profiles stored on home folders via Samba. This would let me use
Netscape which when used with profiles will remember pop mail settings
and mailbox locations. Any other ideas?

Help and suggestions appreciated,

Paul Nelson

Uhh... Sendmail? Comes with Unix... What POP3 is based on... I think
you need a good Unix book as well. :-)
