I read the how-to at:
http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/tips/Samba-Tips/Samba-Tips.html
Situation:
3 machine LAN, 2 NT 4.0 machines, one with Linux Red Hat 6.1
I am trying to use Samba to map shares on my Linux machine to drives on
my NT machines. Here is what I have done so far. The problem is that my
Linux shares do not show up under network neighborhood. Also, I cannot
smbmount my NT shares on the Linux machine.
I am using a workgroup called MONSTERLAND. The Linux machine is RODAN,
the NT machines are GODZILLA and MOTHRA. Here is what I have done so
far on the Linux machine:
1. Edited /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb so that it starts nmdb with:
daemon nmdb -D -G MONSTERLAND
I created a group called pcusers on the Linux machine, which includes
the Linux users Administrator and chris. Created a directory called
/export/pcusers
2. Edited /etc/smb.conf as follows:
[global]
workgroup = MONSTERLAND
nebtios name = RODAN
server string = Rodan Samba: %v
security = user
[pcusers]
comment = foo
path=/export/pcusers
writeable=yes
valid users = @pcusers
locking=yes
create mode = 0660
directory mode = 0770
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
public = yes
path = %H
writeable = yes
valid users = %S
create mode = 0600
directory mode = 0700
locking = no
browseable=yes
3. I ran linuxconf so that smb and nmbd are started at boot time. I can
see them running when I run ps -aef
When I run smbclient -L rodan -U Administrator I get:
Added interface ip=127.0.0.1 bcast=127.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
Password:
Domain=[MONSTERLAND] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.5a]
Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
pcusers Disk pcusers Share
homes Disk Home Directories
IPC$ IPC IPC Service (Rodan Samba: 2.0.5a)
lp Printer
Administrator Disk Home Directories
Server Comment
--------- -------
GODZILLA
RODAN Rodan Samba: 2.0.5a
Workgroup Master
--------- -------
MONSTERLAND RODAN
I created a directory called /win/Godzilla/E but when I run smbmount
as shown below, I get the indicated errors:
smbmount //GODZILLA/E /win/Godzilla/E
Added interface ip=127.0.0.1 bcast=127.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
smbmnt must be installed suid root
mount failed
Are there any ideas what I am doing wrong??
Any help/pointers appreciated

Don't know if this is all of your problem but 127.0.0.1 is your local loopback. The interface address I would think should be the ip address of your host. I think you need a entry in your /etc/hosts file for your machine if you do not have one.
