Hello, I'm trying to configure an Apache Web Server but have a couple of anomolies. I want to enable the use of htm as a file extension for html, I've tried adding a line to srm.conf and .htaccess such as "AddType text/html htm" to no effect, I tried editing the mime.types file and this didn't work either. (I'm testing this by entering a URL of http://localhost.) Any ideas why this might fail? Regards Ian.

I've done "AddType text/html html htm" and it works fine. The thing that doesn't work is the default page which is "Index.html" and not Index.htm - but that's a different story. grtz, tpo

First, if that's really the line you added, you probably need a '.' before the extension. You would in NCSA. Secondly, did you restart the server after you changed the file? You shouldn't have to mess with mailcap or mime.types, because you aren't defining a new type - just mapping a new extension to an extant type. -Miles meo@schoneal.com

Then do a kill -1 on your httpd -- or if you're using the apache server in RedHat, do: /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S85httpd stop /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S85httpd start -- Charlie

To solve the index.html/index.htm problem, you can either list both (in the order you require) for the DirectoryIndex line, or you could switch on MultiViews and just put 'index' instead. You might not be in runlevel 3, or the number 85 might not be guaranteed. What is better is to do "/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd.init [start|stop]". -Dom
