I finally got it all up and running. My environment:
Hardware:
---------
P90 Triton, 24MB, Teles S0/16 (NOT! the new S0.3)
connected to EuroISDN-Line (dss1) (parallel to a EUMEX 208)
Software:
---------
Kernel 1.3.37 (unpatched, compressed slip enabled!)
syncPPP Package from Michael Hipp
(http://134.2.129.23/~hipp/isdn/isdn0.6.6-ppp2.2.tar.gz)
which includes:
isdn4linux 0.6.6beta (Fritz Elfert, modified by Michael Hipp)
teles driver 0.4b (Jan den Ouden, modified by Michael Hipp)
pppd 2.2.0c (Al Longyear et al., modified by Michael Hipp)
What I did:
-----------
after reading all the README's (a must!) and changing
..../isdn/isdn.c
..../teles/teles.h
..../teles/config.c
it compiled out of the box. changing
..../rc.isdn
..../rc.cleanup.isdn
to my local numbers it worked for me immediatelly.
Features tested:
----------------
1) (simple) Dialup to a ISDN-Mailbox as a VT100-Terminal
using seyon. ZMODEM-downloads (sz and rz) work fine.
2) (not so simple) Dialup to a CISCO 7000 (IOS 10.3)
with S2M(PRI)-Board configured for PPP/PAP
3) (trivial when IP is up:)
a bunch of IP-Applications (FTP, Telnet, Netscape et al.)
a transfer-rate of 7.2kb/sec
Remote-X-Sessions
Access to WfW-Fileservers using kernel-SMBFS
Problems encountered:
---------------------
Heavy trafic (flood ping with 1kb-packets) sometimes break
my connection.
Dialback does not work for me, although it works for others.
I get a SETUP form the CISCO, my box emits a two ALERTs but
it then gets a RELEASE from the CISCO.
The CISCO does not allow CHAP, header-compression or channel
bundling (at the moment, Admins plan to upgrade to IOS 11.x soon)
I first used the wrong PPP username/passwd-pair (my fault).
This is case-sensitive. But as though I used the wrong username
(lowercase instead uppercase), the CISCO reported an AUTHENTICATION-
ACKNOGLEDGE (a bug), and continued with IP-Setup, but the line was only
(invisibly) opened unidirectional, my PING got through, but the replies
from the CISCO didn't come back. This took me one week. With the help
of Michael Hipp and our local Router-Admin. I finally found the
mistake (after chewing half of my fingers off :-)
Another success (Linux-Fans stop here :-)
---------------
Using MSDOS 6.22, Windows 3.11, OnNet TCP-IP-Stack, VXD-Capi 1.1,
and the ISDI-PPP-NDIS-Driver i got IP-access from Windows too.
This should work for Win95 with Capi 2.0 and CINDI-Driver, too.
See the appropriate links on Dan Kegels ISDN-Homepage.
(Please don't flame me for using MSDOS/WINDOWS, this is a must
dictated by my company)
have fun,
Michael

All of the three points are implemented in 10.3. I'd suggest to wait
for 11.0(4) till upgrading. 11.0(3) additionally supports PPP
multilink (which is not needed for channel bundling), PPP link
compression and some other nifty features.

ISDN channel bundling is almost useless with the Cisco networking stuff; just set up two parallel links. However, 11.0(4) or so will support Multilink-PPP, which is what you want. Admins planning to "upgrade to IOX 11.x soon" are sort of adventurous, IMHO, but well... Personal rule of thumb: never use an IOS version with at least a 5 in the brackets... YMMV. ISDN channel bundling is almost Me sayings were not exact: Our admins know that 10.3 supports CHAP, but they cannot enable it for my account only. There are a lot of DOS-accounts, which only work with PAP, so they have to allow PAP for ALL accounts on that S2M-card. They plan to use another S2M-card, which will be configured to only support CHAP though. I know that 10.3 does not support dial-back, but a combination of (sleep 20; ping x.x.x.x) on me account on the other side works for me when I use DOS. enjoy, Michael
