Hi all,

Recently upgraded from KDE 1.x to 2.0.1 - latest stable version
(running RH6.2 on my tosh laptop with kernel 2.2.16-3) - its working
still - but had a few weird problems:

1. 'doubling up' of icons/apps in the KDE menu (and kmenuedit doesn't
'see' these or allow me to get rid of them),
2. major problems trying to get kpackage to still work,
3. some apps no longer function because of lib files/other bits that are
supposedly not installed - even though I know I've installed them I get
a no install response using 'rpm -q whatever.rpm':-(
4. Despite the fact that doing kpackage/rpm type upgrading is *supposed*
to sort out all the dependency problems/etc. I now know I've got bits of
KDE 1.x and 2.0.1 on the hard disk now and this is causing
conflicts/problems...:-(

Anyway - any/all help I can get on tidying things up/sorting things out
post-upgrade would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John.

Check in /usr/share/applnk (or wherever your KDE is). You probably have
the same items repeated with two names.

For example: whatever.kdelnk and whatever.desktop.

The .kdelnk is from KDE 1.x, the .desktop one is from KDE 2.x.

Remove the kdelnk ones.

This is a bug with the binary packages you installed.

Details?

It's rpm -q whatever, not whatever.rpm

Details?

kpackage can't fix a broken package. Did you do an install or an
upgrade?

Hope this helps, but much more detail is needed.
