RedHat is charging for their copyrighted logos and some proprietary IBM software. You can make your own distro from a RH distro if you remove all the non-GPL stuff. Try reading this thread: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2003-October/msg01215.html I linked to the "answer", but you might want to read the entire thread > I think that there are better development models out there - Mandrake, Debian +Debian Derivatives. From what I can understand, Fedora will be similar to Debian-testing and Debian-unstable. There will be actual releases, i.e. Fedora 1.0,, Fedora 1.1, etc., (not a Debian user, but it seams Debian doesn't "release" the non-stable versions, you just kind of get what is there at the time) and patches for each release, at least for a while after the release comes out. I'm not exactly thrilled about this idea. I think there needs to be one more product line, something like Red Hat Power User Linux, Special Edition (RH PULSE). Pay something like US$100 for the initial release + 2.5 years of up2date. New RH PULSE releases, coming out of the Fedora project, come out about every 1-1.5 years and updates will stop on each release 2.5 years after the release date. Oh yeah, you get the Red Hat logos, but no need for the IBM proprietary stuff... -- Kevin D. Snodgrass kdsnodgrass (at) yahoo [dot] com
