All this makes me wonder what the OP had hoped to accomplish with this
root oops, creative though it was? Another lesson is to TRUST IN THE
UNIX GODS who have gone before you. If they thought there was a benefit
in changing root's UID to 600, they would have done it a decade or more
ago.

To restate IOW, if you don't understand something, don't change it.
