Well, it is NOT a replacement for Win95 if all you need is to run Win95-specific software. If , however, you do need a robust and high-end server OS at an unbeatable price, it is what you have been looking for. >> As far as I am concerned, Linus Torvald should have never >> started this little project. Nice try, but this kind of argumentation won't give you much sympathy from anyone, be it Linux-hater or not. You start looking like a troll. If all you want to do is to start another flamebait, try col.advocacy . >> It was an enormous waste of time. I can't >> even get my kernel to compile right. I don't see how anyone else is using >> it. [...] You probably have a hardware problem. If the compilation fails with "cc got fatal signal 11" or similar, go to http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11 and read about the most likely reasons for this sort of errors. In Win95, you would have seen a BSOD much earlier. In Linux, the system keeps running fine. That's one of the differences. Yes, the setup is sometimes painful, especially if your local setup is rather unusual. But please keep in mind that most of the software has been written by volunteers . That doesn't mean that their drivers are worse than those of a commercial software enterprise, but it results in certain limitations towards the number of possible hardware setups the driver had been tested against. If you have bought a Linux distribution, try contacting the distributor's support division first. If this fails, try asking the folks here in comp.os.linux.* . Now either show us a detailed error message and a system description, or please leave out the col.* groups from your crossposting lists.
