A lot of the routing stuff is in the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 file under slackware neweydunno about
redhat

  u should also be able to add a default route by typing default add defaultroute, etc
all this stuff is in the ppp-howto
u also need a gateway
and make sure ur dns is pointing to ur isp
or it wont be able to resolve names or numbers
