: DISCLAIMER: I have never tried something like this, there may be a horrible
: pitfall that I am not aware of. But this is how I would try to do it.

: There are a few of problems with this approach, although it does seem
: to be the right idea.
: 1) At this stage in instalation, there is no "mkdir" command.

Take the root disk to a computer with a working linux, mount the floppy
(create an empty directory somewhere (say /mnt) and mount it "mount /dev/df0
/mnt") Copy /bin/mkdir to /mnt/bin/mkdir.

: 2) There is no /mnt , I can't make it with mkdir (see 1), but there
: is a /mountp which is empty. BUT, when I try to mount the SCSI
: hardisk there, I get a message saying something like
: can't grok /mountp

Weird. I don't understand that. Try to create /mnt with the mkdir command
made avaiable above.

: 3) If I could succesfully dump (install) my system on something
: like /mountp , how do I correctly move that to / which appears
: to be ramdisk?

Then you have installed you system on your harddisk (mounted as /mnt), so
when (if?) it boots it will be mounted as /

PITFALLS:
 1) Be sure that the kernel supports SCSI. If the machine where you
take it from has SCSI it may work.

2) If the device is called something else on the other machine you should
edit /mnt/etc/fstab to reflect the new name of the / device. Also you should
tell the kernel the name of the new root device "/mnt/sbin/rdev /mnt/vmlinuz
/dev/something".

) Lilo may need to be run again before you can boot from the harddisk.
Copy the kernel to a floppy "dd if=/mnt/vmlinuz of=/dev/fd0 bs=9k" (remember
to use an empty formatted floppy). Then you can boot from the floppy and
then rerun lilo.

Good luck, you'll need it :-)
