Yeah, because some dumb ass programs install in a wierd way, they change the
mods on / and /home... try this:
chmod 0755 /
chmod 0755 /home
chmod 0755 /home/{users}

that should clear your problem.
also chmod 0777 /tmp

some of this may be concidered a security risk, but you can experiment after
(if this works).
