Maybe I'm in the wrong group, but I hope somebody can help. I want to setup mgetty on a SuSE 7.2 machine. The faxmodem is installed and configured to run at ttyS3. It is a 1414VQH and is capable to handle class 1, class 2, and class 2.0 (that's what the manual says). This is the mgetty.config file: # mgetty configuration file # set the local fax station id fax-id 49 xxxx xxxxxxx # the xx's contain the actial number # access the modem(s) with 38400 bps /19200 bps speed 19200 # use these options to make the /dev/tty-device owned by "uucp.uucp" # and mode "rw-rw-r--" (0664). *LEADING ZERO NEEDED!* port-owner root port-group uucp port-mode 0664 # use these options to make incoming faxes owned by "root.uucp" # and mode "rw-r-----" (0640). *LEADING ZERO NEEDED!* fax-owner root fax-group uucp fax-mode 0640 # ----- port specific section ----- # # Here you can put things that are valid only for one line, not the others # # Perl modem an COM4 (ttyS3) port ttyS3 modem-type auto debug 9 --- end mgetty.config--- When I dial the number which should be answered by the modem, I can hear the typical sound, i.e. I assume the connection is ok. However, I cannot send a fax to this number. The modem continues to send it's sound, but does not accept the connection. This is the log file: -- 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 mgetty: experimental test release 1.1.22-Aug17 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 check for lockfiles 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 checklock: stat failed, no file 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 locking the line 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 makelock(ttyS3) called 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 do_makelock: lock='/var/lock/LCK..ttyS3' 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 lock made 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 tio_get_rs232_lines: status: RTS CTS DSR DTR DCD 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 WARNING: DCD line still active, check modem settings (AT&Dx) 02/28 17:24:00 yS3 lowering DTR to reset Modem 02/28 17:24:01 yS3 tss: set speed to 38400 (017) 02/28 17:24:01 yS3 tio_set_flow_control( HARD ) 02/28 17:24:01 yS3 waiting for line to clear (VTIME), read: 02/28 17:24:01 yS3 send: \dATQ0V1H0[0d] 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 waiting for ``OK'' 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 got: ATQ0V1H0[0d] 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 CND: ATQ0V1H0[0d][0a]OK ** found ** 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 send: ATS0=0Q0&D3&C1[0d] 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 waiting for ``OK'' 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 got: [0d] 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 CND: OK[0a]ATS0=0Q0&D3&C1[0d] 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 CND: ATS0=0Q0&D3&C1[0d][0a]OK ** found ** 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 mdm_send: 'ATI' 02/28 17:24:02 yS3 got:[0d][0a]ATI[0d] 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 got:[0d][0a]248[0d] 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 mdm_gis: string 1: '248' 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 got:[0a][0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 mdm_identify: string '248' 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 unknown numerical modem id 248 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FCLASS=2.0' 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FCLASS=2.0[0d] 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FCLASS=2.0' 02/28 17:24:03 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FAA=1;+FCR=1' 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FAA=1;+FCR=1[0d] 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FAA=1;+FCR=1' 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FBO=1' 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FBO=1[0d] 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FBO=1' 02/28 17:24:04 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FNR=1,1,1,0' 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FNR=1,1,1,0[0d] 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FNR=1,1,1,0' 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FLI="49 xxxx xxxxxxx"' 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FLI="49 xxxx xxxxxxx"[0d] 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FLI="49 xxxx xxxxxxx"' 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:05 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 mdm_send: 'AT+FCC=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0' 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 got:[0a]AT+FCC=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0[0d] 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 mdm_command: string 'AT+FCC=1,5,0,2,0,0,0,0' 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 got:[0d][0a]OK[0d] 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 waiting for line to clear (VTIME), read: 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 removing lock file 02/28 17:24:06 yS3 waiting... The x's again stand for the true phone number. If I understand the log correctly, the modem responds with class 2.0 and I would have expected that it runs ok. Any idea what I need to change or where to find more information? Thanks Werner
