I have 2 2gig drives - one scsi, one ide. Win98 will be on one and Linux will be on the other. I'd prefer to choose which OS loads by specifying the boot order of the drives in BIOS. Can this be done? I'd rather avoid using LILO at all. Can i achieve this by installing LILO to the boot sector of the Linux root partition rather than installing it to the MBR of the Linux drive? Would Linux boot if i then select this drive to boot first in BIOS? Or, if i put the W98 drive first in boot order (under BIOS) would LILO (on the other drive) be avoided in any event? If LILO is in the MBR of the Linux drive, what happens if i later take the W98 drive out of the machine? If you want to dual boot put it on your MBR (main boot Drive) Sven s_y_t@my-dejanews.com wrote in message <7c1jtk$u2o$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com>... >I have 2 2gig drives - one scsi, one ide. Hi syt, Put Lilo in your MBR (Master Boot R????), on the HDD that your PC's bios is set to boot from first. If I remember correctly, at setup time you can choose which OS (Linux or Windoze) is to be default for boot. When Lilo runs on turning on and booting your PC, you have I think 10 secs in which to enter your choice of which system to boot, or Lilo boots the defualt. As you have 2 HDD's, one for each OS, you may be able to choose at the PC boot up which HDD to boot from. I have a Pentium II, and on boot it listd the HDD's (ie Master 1, Slave 1, Master 2, Slave 2), and I can select which to boot from. As you have 1 IDE and 1 SCSI HDD, I'm not sure that this will work in your case.
