Hello everyone I've just bought Redhat 5.0 ... I get my S/B AWE 64pnp to work... as well as my 3com 3c509a to work. Howerver now the 3com network card is using IRQ3 which is suppose to be for modem.. now I cannot dial out.. I want to move the 3com IRQ to 9. I have try setserial -b /dev/ttyS1 IRQ 9 setserial -b /dev/cua1 IRQ 9 ....but stll I cannot see anything when the modem is connected... If someone got any idea I would be appreciated.. regards, Jason Ung

I have a 3C509 in my Linux test box, and I set the card up using the DOS configuration utility, 3C5X9CFG.EXE, on the 3Com "EtherDisc" that came with the card. There is a batch file on the "EtherDisc" called PNPDSABL.BAT, which turns Plug-n-Pray off (yes!), then once you've done that you can manually choose what your I/O port address and your IRQ are for that card. I also disabled that p-n-p crap on the modem card in that box; I've got the modem jumpered for a fixed IRQ and COM port as well. Unfortunately, I don't know how to turn off p-n-p on the SoundBlaster 16 PNP card in there. You can even boot off a DOS 6.22 bootable disc and then run the programs on the "EtherDisc". If you don't have the "EtherDisc", I believe you should be able to download it or an equivalent from www.3com.com. Where you can get a DOS 6.22 bootable disc if you don't have one lying around, though, I don't know. Yours WDK - WKiernan@concentric.net

Even if you turn it off on the 3com card, if you have another PNP card in the machine, the 3com card needs to be initialized. What you guys need is isapnptools (there's a link to it off Redhat's site). It has a program, pnpdump, which generates a list of all possible resources that can be used by PNP cards. Uncomment the ones you want. On boot, the program reads the file and intializes the card before modules, etc. are loaded. No dos boot needed. -- Peter Fein 1005 E. 60th St. Chicago, IL 60637 773-834-6206 p-fein@uchicago.edu http://student-www.uchicago.edu/users/pafein/
