Hi- I have linux and Win95 on my machine. Both work great, except I have a problem loading using the Linux kernel on the hd. I have LILO install in my MBR and it comes up fine and will load Win95 without a problem, but went I type in 'linux'(as I name my linux drive) it comes up as - LILO boot: linux Loading linux The hard drive light comes on and it just spins the hard drive and does nothing. Linux boots fine from a floppy. Any ideas or suggestions? Greatly appreciated, Will Hansmann hansmann@interacess.com

Have you tried to re-compile the kernel and 'make zlilo'? E. William Hansmann wrote: > Hi- > > I have linux and Win95 on my machine. How many cylinders does your HDD have? (after any LBA translation). One easy way to determine this is to run fdisk (from Linux) and see how many cylinders it reports. If it's less than 1024, then your problem is most likely LILO thinks the kernel image is somewhere is isn't. Make sure /etc/lilo.conf points to the correct kernel image, and rerun /sbin/lilo. If you have > 1024 cylinders, and your boot partition goes past the 1024 mark, then LILO may not be able to see the kernel. You'll have to either keep using the floppy, or move the kernel and other boot files to the Win 95 partition (if it's VFAT and not FAT32). If none of the above, you may have some compatibility problem between your kernel and the system. Try copying the kernel image from the floppy to the HDD and re-run /sbin/lilo. :-) ...
