- NCR SCSI card problem

Can I take it that a

                     PCI NCR 815 F-SCSI-2 card

is incompatible with Linux, all versions (including 1.1.59) ?
(An 815 is an 810 with an on-board BIOS)

The P5-90 system detects it fine, Linux will not :(

- Does anyone know when it will be supported?

Having you tried getting a newer kernel, or is it more complex than that?

I take it you've tried all the proper Linux newsgroups..

I think Linux supports the 810. Hmmm.

It _should_ work. Probably best to check the following points:

1. You have compiled SCSI support into the kernel, haven't you?
Answer yes to ncr53c7,8xx as well as generic SCSI support.
2. Do you get the SCSI BIOS message after the POST?
3. What does 'dmesg' say -- anything?

My NCR SCSI card just arrived today, and within ten minutes
of plugging it in, I get: (from 'cat /proc/pci')

PCI devices found :
Bus 0 Device 0 Function 0.
Host bridge : Acer Labs M1445 (rev 0).
Bus 0 Device 3 Function 0.
VGA display controller : Cirrus Logic GD 5434 (rev 38).
Bus 0 Device 4 Function 0.
    SCSI bus controller : NCR 53c810 (rev 2). 8259's interrupt 9.

and from 'dmesg'

scsi-ncr53c7,8xx : at PCI bus 0, device 4, function 0
scsi-ncr53c7,8xx : warning : revision of 2 is greater than 1.
scsi-ncr53c7,8xx : NCR53c810 at memory 0x81000000, io 0x3000, irq 9

I'm surprised it isn't supported. I thought this is one of the PCI
SCSI cards that are supported in NetBSD and FreeBSD.

I have no idea...maybe it's worth checking out on of the newer kernels?
1.2.8 is the latest one I think...
