I had the same problem - I fixed it now though. These are the relevant 
libraries, and how they are arranged on my system:

/usr/lib/libGL.a
/usr/lib/libGL.so
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 --> /usr/lib/libGL.so
/usr/lib/libGLU.so.1 --> /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1.2
/usr/lib/libGLU.so.1.2
/usr/lib/libMesaGL.a --> /usr/lib/libGL.a
/usr/lib/libMesaGL.so --> /usr/lib/libGL.so
/usr/lib/libglut.so.3.7
/usr/lib/libglut.so.3 --> /usr/lib/libglut.so.3.7

/usr/lib/GL/glut.h --> /usr/local/include/glut.h
/usr/lib/GL/libGL.so.1.2 --> /usr/lib/GL/libGL.so.1.2.xf86_glx

/usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so. --> /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1.2
/usr/X11R6/lib/libGLU.so.1 --> /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1
/usr/X11R6/lib/libGLw.a

Hope this helps - I had to add a few links in by hand that ldconfig had 
missed, as tuxracer wouldn't compile...

If it still doesn't work, do "export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose" then run glxinfo 
again, and pay special attention to the first few lines. Mail me.
