Greetings,
Must all of this type of info is easy located using your favorite seb
search tool, and I suppose Reading The Fine Manual or HOWTO in this case
wouldn't hurt either! Just because a monitor and/or video card is not
listed during the configuration screens, has little bearing on the
proper functioning of each after a little bit of head scratching. This
is only true when you have the following information to lead you down
the right path to properly configure each device and have each work
within each others capabilities.
Here is the specs on the monitor as found at the url of:
http://www.advantage.co.nz/products/mnd1772.htm
The important monitor info being:
Horizontal Frequency 30-72 kHz, autosynchronous
Vertical Frequency 50-120 Hz, autosynchronous
Video Bandwidth 110 MHz
Maximum Resolution 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz
Resolutions and Refresh Rates 1152 x 864/870 up to 75 Hz
1024 x 768 up to 85 Hz
800 x 600 up to 100 Hz
640 x 480 up to 110 Hz
Of course here is the info on the vid card found at:
http://www.sparkle.com.tw/products/sp368.htm
Chip Set: S3 Trio 3D/2X+, 368
BUS TYPE: 2X AGP
Memory Size: SP368/4M,8M SGRAM/SDRAM
Driver supports: Windows95, Windows98, WindowsNT4.0
Size: 14.4cmX8.4cm
Resolution & Colors BPP Refresh Rate (HZ)
640x480-256c/64Kc/16Mc 8/16/24 60/72/75/85
800x600-256c/64Kc/16Mc 8/16/24 56/60/72/75/85
1024x768-256c/64Kc/16Mc 8/16/24 43/60/70/75/85
1152x864-256c/64Kc/16Mc 8/16/24 60/70/75/85
1280x1024-256c/64Kc/16Mc 8/16/24 43/60/75/85
1600x1200-256c/64Kc 8/16 48/60/75/85
taking the info on the monitor and video card we wind up with the
following info!
/etc/X11/XF86Config #note: any values outside of this range will be
automagically bypassed. These values are for the monitor capabilities
NOT the video card!
HorizSync 30.0-72.0
VertRefresh 50.0-120.0
modelines with the following resolution values
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
delete any modeline values with 1600x1200 to be on the safe side!
Use the default values for the above values. Once up and running, run
xvidtune to "tweak" the setting to your desires. All screens can be ran
in 8,16, or 24 bbp.
Have funb learning a few more things along the way. If you have
problems, email me.
