I hope this request does not appear twice but tin hung up when I tried a little
while ago and I don't know whether the posting actually got done. My apologies if
so!
I have recently seen rotatable LCD monitors with 1024 x 768 resolution advertised
for about $700 and thus becoming potentially affordable for personal use. Has
anyone any experience with their use with X? I am particularly interested in the
rotated position: 768 x 1024 since this is very suitable for word processing. If
there is an appropriate FAQ I have not been able to find it.
TIA,
Jim.

Hi, James,
Recently there has been very little problem with Linux Xfree servers and
LCD displays. I don't have experience with standalone LCD monitors, but with
laptops, however, I think the same principle still applies.
I believe that the only difficulty lies in having reasonable sync signal parameters
output to the laptop, but recently I have had good luck with several of those using
just standard mode lines out of default XF86config.
To switch between the screen orientations, you'd probably have to have
two modes in your XF86config file: one for 1024x768 and another one
for 768x1024, and switch between them by hand (Ctrl-Alt-GrayPlus) when
you rotate the monitor.
