Gnome or X is frequently dying on me whenever : i set my mouse to 7 buttons in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (What is the difference between this file and the file without the 4???) - i have an intellimouse with 7 buttons with the scroll mapped as the right axis. i leave my computer on overnight ( downloading something ) and when i return i see that the download is finished but the xserver seems to be on a loop where it keeps on trying to load the server and stops every 5 minutes. i try and use nvidias drivers/kernel. Can anyone help? Also i could not get any kernels to work/compile unless i used the new test12 for 2.4. I heard it was problems with the new development version of gcc? can anyone elaborate please? I am using RH7 with recent errata update , nvidia tnt2 m64 video card, intellimouse explorer, pc150 ram, p3 850.

I get mine from http://gnu.gcc.org but redhat may have a rpm/
