DUN won't work after using a comms programme...Help??

Hi!
I hope someone can help with this:
Dial-Up-Network works fine for internet connection for me, but if I
subsequently launch a comms/telephony package (Bitware 4.0 Plus or
Supervoice) and then close this down, and I then use DUN, it will at
first dial the number and sound like it's trying to connect to the
server but then hangs and I get disconnected ("error 629: You have
been disconnected from the computer you dialled..."). If I then try to
use either DUN or a comms package neither can find the modem ("Error
630: The computer is not receiving a respons from the modem....").
I've tried changing round the IRQ's and Com ports to no avail and
loads of other stuff. Com port sharing also enabled.
Other info: Windows 95 on PII 266 (Gateway Europe) with K56Flex modem
by Media Force.
Any Help Please!!??
Guy

I have seen this before, and I am not sure why it happens, but if you can
go to Shutdown, and Close all programs and logon as a different User, this
usually goes away without having to do a full reboot.

Actually I've subsequently found out that I can use DUN after using Lotus Organizer's Dialler facility. So there must be something these comms packages are doing to the modem/setup which is interfering. Any other ideas much appreciated! What is the modem set up as by Windows95? If it is just the Standard
Modem this may not work. I have the correct INF files if you need
them.

There is an AT command (ATF?) which resets the modem to its currently stored defaults. THis should be issued by all comms programs after hanging up, and probably before starting just to be on the safe side. -- Jim Smith

Guy,
For troubleshooting purposes try this. Run the comm program causing
the issue, then run hyperterminal, set it up normally but when it
wants to dial click cancel and it should get you to a terminal, a
blinking cursor. Try ATZ and press enter, sometimes it helps to try
this several times, depends upon your modem, yada yada. Now go run
DUN and if you still get the same issue, go back into the terminal and
type in AT&F&W press enter, til it says ok. Now run DUN and see what
happens.
Sounds like it could be what someone mentioned before, software
dialers tend to put in these exit strings from hell (software such as
faxworks which is sorta like a separate ENTITY from the OS) not
releasing a modem or resetting it properly.
Good luck.
