Help - Font Folder Corruption in Office 97

My font folder is continually being corrupted by both Word 97 and Excel 97
(and possibly by the others in the suite, but I don't use them as much).
This ruins my Win95 session, and the only way I have found to correct the
problem is to repair the folder using TweakUI. However, this requires a
full reboot, and is extremely annoying. I haven't had it occur in any other
applications, but it nearly always occurs in Office.

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance.

Robert Harle

PS I installed SR-1, but this has had no effect.

Well, basically, the fonts randomly become corrupted, and totally illegible
during an office session. Closing the app reveals that the entire Win95 has
been corrupted, with all type unreadable. It looks as if the fonts are
still there, because I can see small parts of the letters, and they can be
highlighted, changed, and printing is fine etc.

If it happens soon, I'll try and get a screenshot, which I'll post.

Do you have the TrueType font "MT SORTS" (or "Monotype Sorts") installed
on your system? If so, remove it (by dragging it from the FONTS control
panel to the Desktop), reboot the system, and see if problem goes away.
(If not, just drag it back from the Desktop to the FONTS control panel.)

Certain versions of this font file (I've seen conflicting information
about which ones) send the TrueType glyph rendering engine out of
its tree, producing the symptoms you describe. The symptoms can occur
even if no application uses the font; the mere presence of the file
in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder is enough to trigger the failure.

Tseng ET6000 SVGA card? Download build 5000 drivers from
www.tseng.com, or e-mail me if they are still down. It's a small
download, so not a prob for e-mail.
