Hi,
I have uploaded a new version of my Windows installer to ftp sites. This is
a major upgrade which addresses all the deficiencies of the older versions.
It can now be used as an installer for even the most complex application
setups.
Program: Chief's Windows Installer v2.40
Filename: c_inst24.zip.

Description:
------------
This program is a generic installation program for Windows applications.
This is useful for those who have written Windows programs but do not want
to go through the hassle of writing an installer. As an "off-the-shelf"
installation suite, it does things like;
[a] checking for sufficient disk space on the target drive
[b] copying files from the installation disks (up to 20 installation disks)
to any destination directory, subdirectories under that directory,
the TEMP director, the Windows directory, and the Windows SYSTEM
directory - or any combination of these
[c] uncompressing the files automatically (using the routines in
LZEXPAND.DLL), if they were compressed with Microsoft's COMPRESS.EXE
(uncompressed files are just copied)
[d] optionally creating a Program Manager group
[e] optionally creating Program Manager icons
[f] optionally running any program(s) as part of the installation
process (and trying to wait for those programs to complete before
continuing)
[g] optionally running any specified program(s) immediately after the
installation is complete
[h] optionally deleting any temporary files that you created during the
installation
[i] optionally putting the installation directory in the "path" statement
in AUTOEXEC.BAT
[j] optionally making entries in any specified INI file(s) - and
creating the files if they do not exist
[k] providing great flexibility and configurability with respect to the
Installer itself and its behaviour.
The details of your installation are read from an INF file in ASCII format.
Sample INF files are provided.
Chief's Installer is supplied as "ChiefWare" - you offer me a free
registered copy of your shareware or freeware application (and if I want it,
you send me a copy), or, if your application is commercial, you send me a
nice and unique postcard of your area.
