Equation Editor with save?

Is there something like the Equation Editor that comes with
Word-for-Windows that allows you to save an equation and then
re-edit it later?

I've found after I've pasted an equation in and later proof-read
the paper that I have to modify the equation. Some of them take
10-15 minutes to bash up (the multi-derivatives in matrix form).

Or is there a better word-processor with equation editing in it?
I like Word, but think I might be able to purchase another Word-
processor if suited my needs more. I'm studying Econometrics/
Economics and Civil Engineering, so really need something that
can handle equations.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the e-mail replies.

I guess I'll have to RTFM some more over the holidays, as all I had
to do is to double-click on the equation and Word will reload the
equation editor and let me edit the file. I had been using the
clipboard via cut and paste, which is not the way to do it.

Though, I'd been told that the there is a full featured version of
Equation Editor available, which I will pursue after the exams are
over, because I like the idea of a worksheet with global templates
that you can save.

I'd been looking into EmTex, so I guess I'll have to learn TeX, as
a lot of publications require manuscripts in Latex form. Thanks
for all the help.

The equations are still in Word for Windows? Simply double click on
them, and Word will load the equation editor again and you will be able
to edit the formula. Just like with drawings, graphs etc.

The original poster may have been referring to the ability to save eqns
without using WordforWin.

I read in the Eqn Booklet that Eqn Editor is a cut down version of a program
called 'MathType', created by Design Science Inc.
Appendix C of the Eqn Editor Booklet lists Design Science distributors

I believe there is something at cica in the winword directory called
pat4draw.zip or something like that. It will attach itself to your
equaiton editor in word and change it into an enhanced equation editor
which will allow you to save individual equations as files.

Good Luck
