WfW2: Custom automatic outline numbers and refering to them, how?

I am not satisfied with the default set of automatic outline
numbering that WfW2 offers (legal & outline field codes). I would
like to number my outline as:
1 Title (level 1)
1.1 Title (level 2)
1.1.1 Title (level 3)
2 Title (level 1)
etc.
I know this can be done via the 'learn by example' outline
numbering. However, that excludes refering to outline numbers by
means of bookmarks: every time I update my paragraphs in outline
view, bookmarks are deleted and I am left with REF fieldcodes in
error...
My wish is: automatic outline numbering in the way I want it and the
ability to refer to these outline numbers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I think I already received the best solution by mail:
Doug Maddox (maddox@nadc.nadc.navy.mil) suggests the use of the SEQ
fields. He writes:

To me this solution seems fairly straighforward, thanks Doug!
