I am looking for a summer intern to work on a new Windows CE browser. Please send me a resume if you are interested, or pass this job description on if you know someone who would like to work at HP Labs in Palo Alto CA, Summer 2001. This position is intended primarily for students, graduate in CS preffered, but undergrads with a good background may apply as well. Pay is very good, and is based on the number of years of education and the degrees you have completed. A relocation bonus is also available for out-of-area hires. You must be legally able to work in the United States for this position. Hewlett-Packard company is an equal opportunity employer JOB DESCRIPTION Develop new client/server software for image re-rendering, progressive transmission, and predictive pre-caching to facilitate low bandwidth, low resolution browsing via wireless. Work with prototype palmtop hardware. Develop a new image browsing user interface that uses highly efficient code. Interface the application to experimental UI hardware and wireless communications. -------------------------------------------------------------- Job Requirements - Essential and Preferred --------------------------------------------------------------- Required skills: Strong background in C++ and web programming. Must have basic understanding of TCP/IP, sockets, HTTP, and image file formats. Basic understanding of JPEG image compression. Useful skills: Some background in Windows programming will be helpful. Windows CE experience a big plus, but any windows programming background may be sufficient. Familiarity with Unix web servers also helpful. Any digital image processing background would be very helpful.

Wow. That job sounds fun---I have lot of experience of content transformation, since I encountered just about every free GIF, JPEG and HTML parser written in Java while I was writing PackAndGo (see my Web site for more information). Too bad I couldn't handle calculus (I was good in my CS classes), so I am now a history major. Yes, that means I don't understand the discrete cosine transform very well, so I'm not qualified for the job. Plus, I am terrible at C++. Still, good luck finding someone. If I run into any job-hungry CS people on campus who also love handheld computers I will let them know about this. ====================================================================== Edward Hsu University of California, Berkeley Email: hsu123@uclink4.berkeley.edu Web: http://thibs.menloschool.org/~hsu123/ "Enough bunkers!
