Direct Cable Connection

I've just got a laptop and tried to set it up for DCC with my desktop. I am
able to connect the two computers via the LPT1 ports, the username and
passwords are verified, and the guest (laptop) says "Looking for shared
files." It then says it can't find any (although I've enabled it on the
host) and asks me to enter the host's name. I do this and it then says
"Cannot find the host computer".

What am I doing wrong?

The Network Neighborhood icon must be on the desktops, at least on
the Guest.
A Laplink (data transfer) type cable must be used, printer and
null modem cables don't work on the printer port.
Use the same workgroup name for both but a different computer
name. I use OEM1 and OEM2 for computer names.

How to setup Direct Cable Connection using Printer Ports.

I got this problem too.
What helps to me often is search for a computer (start->find->computers)
If it doesn't appears in the first time, it appear in the second or third time
on my computer.

DCC can be just plain twitchy like that.

Try setting up a folder or drive for sharing. There should be an option to
enable it in the right-click menu.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I checked out the web page below and I didn't have the same protocols on
each computer. Now everything is cool.

DCC sometimes works and sometimes does not. With some machines it will work
parallel and not serial, and other machines it will work serial and not
parallel. I have two machines that will not communicate under threat of
death, each of which communicates enthusiastically with a third. A search of
the web leads you to suspect
that it is not a highly regarded protocol.
